    Hello,

Can a SQL 2008 R2 box be joined to an existing SQL 2008 cluster that's not
running R2? If so, are there any known issues?

My understanding with clustering is that the versions of the boxes need to
match, especially when it comes to things like installing patches.
Therefore, to my knowledge, the above is not possible.

    Thanks,
    Rubens

P.S. I posted this to the Clustering newsgroup as well, but it doesn't
    appear to be very active.

  2. I usually abstain from answering clustering questions, since I'm not
very knowledgable in that area. But here I dare to answer very
authoratively, no it is not possible.

There are indeed very few difference in the Database Engine between R1
and R2. But R2 has Unicode compression, which is not in R1. Guess
what happens if you would use this feature and then fall back on R1...

    Hey Erland,

Sorry for the late reply as I haven't been online much. Thank-you for
    answering my question, good info!
