MSDE anonymous merge replication setup

I have 2 questions regarding MSDE to SQL-Server merge replication

    1) Do I have to setup a anonymous pull subscription within the SQL-Server
Pub/Distrib before I can run a synch from an MSDE subscriber?

I plan on using the VB sqlMerge contol to create the initial snapshot and
subsequent merge synch's on the client laptops. In researching this I
originally was going to use Jet 4.0/Access and I got some code that setup
the inital snapshot and ran subsequent merges without having the subscriber
'attached' on the publisher/distributor SQL-Server box. I would like to do
the same thing with MSDE instead of Access.

Please note also that ultimately this app will be synch-ing over the
    internet.

    2) Do I have to have the replication features installed on my MSDE
subscriber as well? Isn't this handled by the merge control I'm using in
the Access front end ("Microsoft SQL Merge Control 8.0) ?

    Thanks!

  2. 1) It can be done from the subscriber. Pay attention to the PublisherAddress
and PublisherNetwork properties. These allow you to connect with your
    publisher.
    2) You will need to install replication on your MSDE subscriber to do the
    pull.
