setup.exe and svchost.exe hogging CPU, setup.exe hogging memory

  1. Hi,

I'm trying to install SQL Reporting Services 2005 on my dev MOSS2007 box,
but when the SQL installer gets to "SQL Server Setup is scanning your
    computer's configuration..." setup.exe and svchost.exe between them use 100%
CPU and setup.exe slowly uses up more and more memory.

The server is a VM running Win2003StdSP2 x86, with a single CPU and 2gig RAM.
    MOSS2007 just had SP2 applied.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

When setup.exe hit 640meg, I killed it. I've rebooted the VM, but same story.
    What exactly is it doing?

    Soon'ish
    Craig

  2. OK, fourth attempt seems to have worked, with setup.exe using over 400megs...

    Bizzare!
