SQL Server 2008, RTM, X64 on Server 2008 x64 fails install

  1. I'm trying to do a full install of SQL 2008 enterprise on Windows Server 2008
    enterprise SP1. The setup program has performed all the necessary
    pre-requisite installs and upgrades and I'm able to start the setup program.
    Very quickly I get the following error:

    Error writing to file: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.dll verify
    that you have access to that directory.

    it doesn't actually say what directory?

    The log file (sql_common_core_Cpu64_1.log) shows the following entries at
    failure;
    MSI (s) (20:B8) [22:30:31:895]: Note: 1: 1305 2:
    E:\x64\setup\sql_common_core_msi\Windows\Gac\wsef9rl7.dll 3: 1

    you have access to that directory.

    I'm trying to do this install using a remote console, might that be the
    problem?

    Thanks for your help
